Givaldo Alves, known nationally as the “beggar of love”, currently admitted to the Vinde Vida Therapeutic Community, spoke about his experiences and feelings after a case that sparked controversy in 2022, when he was beaten by a personal trainer after being caught having sex with the attacker’s wife, an influencer. In an exclusive video obtained by the Na Mira chronicle, he spoke of the moments of trauma and violence experienced after the national controversy.
Givaldo has been hospitalized for more than two years at the Vinde Vida Therapeutic Community, located in Ponte Alta, Gama region, in the Federal District. The Christian institution focuses on the healing, reintegration and specialization of people in vulnerable situations, including drug addicts.
According to him, this period was decisive in overcoming the trauma accumulated over the years in the streets and after the public revelation resulting from the episode that made him known throughout the country.
“That dirty baggage of drinks, cigarettes and women, all that was left behind, I found myself alone. Everything that happened brought me fear, pain and trauma. I ended up losing trust in people and I didn’t know if there was a tomorrow,” he said. Givaldo detailed experiences of violence and threats on the streets, such as waking up to being attacked or kicked out of certain places. He said the change began when he decided to “give himself a new opportunity” after being welcomed by the institution.
“I was spiritually freed from a heavy yoke. Here I had the chance to be a new person, with new experiences,” he said.
In addition to the personal recovery process, Givaldo also helps other people receiving treatment. Currently, he is part of the institution’s laundry department, the sector responsible for receiving and organizing clothing donations. For him, work is a way of rewarding the care he has received. “Sometimes we have so much, but there are so many people who only need a little. »
Reflecting on the past, Givaldo questioned the idea that he had “opportunities” thanks to his sudden fame. “I asked myself what these opportunities were. Today I understand that the real opportunity was to get here,” he said.
Now far from controversies and media exposure, Givaldo says he experiences a process of reconstruction on a daily basis. “Love is immeasurable. Only those who experience it understand. It is something that completes and gives security,” he concluded.
Remember the case
On the night of March 9, 2022, Givaldo Alves was surprised inside the car of Sandra Mara Fernandes, then wife of personal trainer Eduardo Alves, on a street in Planaltina. Seeing the scene, Eduardo reacted violently, thinking it was rape, and attacked the homeless man.
Images of the attacks circulated on social networks and shocked the country. The case mobilized the police, psychologists and millions of Internet users. A few days later, medical reports showed that Sandra was in a psychotic episode due to bipolar affective disorder at the time of the episode.
At the time, Givaldo, in an interview with Metropolisessaid the relationship was consensual and that she invited him to get in the car. “I was walking down the street and I heard a scream, ‘Boy, boy.’ “I did not commit rape. God put me in a place surrounded by cameras that prove it,” he said at the time.
But the glow was brief. Shortly after, Givaldo deleted his social media and disappeared from the media. Photos taken about two years ago showed him walking around Ceilândia with a shopping bag alongside a woman. Since then, no trace of his whereabouts or activity has been found.
Before his fame, Givaldo had previous involvement with the police, including a kidnapping conviction in 2004. After the 2022 affair, he was even accused of defamation, due to interviews in which he detailed what happened with Sandra. Although he attempted to turn notoriety into opportunity, his public career ended quietly and “the country’s most famous former beggar” returned to anonymity.
The case became a national story not only because of the scandal, but also because of debates about social vulnerability, mental health and the destructive power of instant fame. Currently, Sandra is leading and influencing, Eduardo has retired and started over, and Givaldo has disappeared from public life.
