Sporting achieved a comfortable away victory against Vitória de Guimarães, on the 15th day of the Portuguese Championship. This Tuesday (23), the Lisbon team won 4-1 at the Dom Afonso Henriques stadium with Francisco Trincão, Ioannidis, Maximiliano Araújo and an own goal from Juan Castillo. The hosts took advantage of Telmo Arcanjo.
With a result far from their domains, the Lions reach 38 points, remaining in second place in the Primeira Liga, five behind Porto. Vitória, on the other hand, has 21 points and is in eighth place.
The game
In the 31st minute of the match, Francisco Trincão played a game of pure speed and opportunism. He collects the ball in the middle of the field, accelerates towards the area and joins Ioannidis. The Greek’s cross found Trincão, who hit the post on his first attempt, but lost nothing and opened the scoring. Shortly after, in the 42nd minute, Ricardo Mangas picked up the ball in the area and Ioannidis, in great form, rose above the opposing defense to head home, giving Sporting a comfortable lead before the break.
From the start of the second half, Telmo Arcanjo took a risk from outside the area. The powerful shot surprised Rui Silva, who was unable to hold on, and Vitória reduced the score to 2-1, reviving the hopes of the home fans. But the team failed to maintain the pace in the face of Leo’s superiority. In the 17th minute, a free kick from Maximiliano Araújo caused confusion in the area. Luis Suárez took a slight deflection and clumsy goalkeeper Juan Castillo pushed against his own goal, once again increasing the Lions’ advantage. In the 34th minute, Araújo reappeared. After a shot from Suárez left inside the area, the Uruguayan just pushed it into the back of the net to make the score 4-1 for Sporting.
