The Civil Defense broadcast system issued a red alert, considered severe, for residents of the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, capital of Rio Grande do Sul. According to the agency, there could be strong wind gusts, reaching 90 km/h.

“Stay sheltered during storms, away from trees, electrical panels/poles. Remove electronic devices from the socket and keep doors and windows tightly closed. Shelter pets. Check with your city’s Civil Protection, find out about Municipal Emergency Plans to find out what the risks are and how to act in the event of a disaster in your municipality”, advises Civil Defense.
The red alert is considered very high, within the agency’s severity scale (consisting of green, yellow, orange, red and purple). According to Defense, it requires the population to “take action” in the face of the dangers they may face.

- Green: normal
- Yellow: moderate alert, be attentive
- Orange: high alert, be prepared
- Red: very high alert, take action
- Purple: extreme alert, immediate action

According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), Porto Algre is in the orange zone which means “danger”. There are currently a lot of clouds, rain showers and possibly hail.
