Storm leaves two dead, landslides and floods in Ilhabela

Two people died Ilhabelacoast of São Paulo, due to a storm that hit the municipality on Tuesday 16 and caused floods and landslides. With Tuesday’s events, the state of São Paulo has already recorded seven deaths this month, due to heavy rainfall.

Teams carried out an on-site inspection and carried out preventive closures on two properties, which resulted in one homeless family being sent to a family home and another homeless family to a town hall shelter.

The other incident was recorded in Avenue Faria LimaÁgua Branca district, where a person was on the terrace at the back of the residencewhen the water rose and swept it away with the structure.

“Due to the rising waters of a waterfall, a strong current broke out of a terrace located at the rear of the residence where the resident was located. Civil Defense, in collaboration with the firefighters, carried out the search and rescue, and his death was noted on the spot,” declared the State Civil Defense.

Along the Estrada do Parque Casteliano, a drop next to tree falling on public roadhit power cables, causing the road to be completely closed. Defense has contacted the energy concessionaire, where it is awaiting permission to cut and clean the road. There was no interruption in the electricity supply.

Teams continue to assist residents and assess the damage caused in Ilhabela.

• Ilhabela (16/12/25) – the collapse of the wall caused the death of a man;
• Ilhabela (12/16/25) – a man was swept away by the current.

THE Operation Rains started on March 1 and will continue until March 31 in the state of São Paulo.
