Spoiler alert: This text contains some details about what has happened in the series so far, but reveals nothing about the final four episodes.
Christmas dinner may be coming – or maybe another chocolate (without the strawberry toppings, thanks) – but for fans of Stranger Thingsanother gift is about to be devoured.
The grand finale of Netflix’s hugely popular sci-fi horror series, which also features some questionable 1980s fashion choices, is approaching.
Fans saw the residents of Hawkins in a dangerous situation in the season five opener, with Demogorgons on the loose, alongside the monstrous Vecna. A final battle is about to begin.

Hawkins was under siege, with rifts – or dimensional tears – opening and letting in terrifying Demogorgons from the Upside Down, while the city remained under military quarantine.
The hunt for Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, has intensified. She and Hopper (David Harbour) faced evil forces in an upside-down military base. They came face to face with a disgusting wall of flesh and met the fearsome government scientist, Dr. Kay, played by the star of The terminatorLinda Hamilton.
The big reveal was that Will discovered he had supernatural powers… Plus, something strange was happening in a cave with Max, Holly and Vecna, in his previous, disturbing incarnation as Henry Creel.
There are still many details to be worked out, and fans are hoping the outcome won’t disappoint them, after series finales like Game of Thrones And Lost were a source of division and frustration for part of the public.
The executive producer of Stranger ThingsShawn Levy, said the series’ latest episode was carefully crafted for its huge global fan base.
“They’ve had their hearts broken by shows they loved that ended up failing with audiences,” he recently told Variety, adding that the show’s creators, the Duffer brothers, “didn’t want and refused to be a part of those shows.”
How important is the cave?

We all want to know why Henry Kreel, played by Jamie Campbell Bower, looks scared outside the cave where Max Mayfield and Holly Wheeler are taking refuge.
They seem trapped in one of Henry’s earliest memories, with Holly in his childhood home and Max in the cave.
Fans on Reddit and TikTok have a few theories…but they’re related to the coin Stranger Things: The First Shadowwhich we won’t spoil here.
We already know that Henry killed his mother and sister, leaving his injured father to take the blame. Henry, of course, ended up at Hawkins Lab, where he met Eleven, who blasted him with her powers, transforming him into Vecna.
Meanwhile, Holly (played by Nell Fisher), Mike and Nancy’s sister, was kidnapped by a Demogorgon inside the house, where her mother tried to defend her in a bloody battle.
It remains to be seen why Holly now has a cassette with a copy of the 80s hit by Tiffany, I think we’re alone nowwhich was given to her by Henry, whom she called Mr. Whatsit.
Netflix’s Tudum site explains that this name “comes from the character Mrs Whatsit, from A wrinkle in timethe classic 1962 science fiction fantasy novel by Madeleine L’Engle”, which Holly was reading in the fifth season.
Max, played by Sadie Sink, remains in a coma in Hawkins after nearly being killed by Vecna.
The other children and Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) do their best to save their friends and the people of Hawkins.
Why does music seem to stop Vecna?

We still don’t know…yet.
Joyce Montepiedra speculated on GameRant that this happens because “the music helps redirect the victim’s attention back to reality and away from Vecna’s mind games.”
When Max seemed about to die, hearing Run up that hillby Kate Bush, kept her grounded in reality, preserving her life.
We also discovered, in the fourth season, that the song Dream a little dream of meby Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, released in 1950, helped Henry Creel’s father, Victor, escape the murderous manipulations of his own son.
Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) and Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke) realized, after visiting Victor in a mental institution, that music could penetrate a person’s consciousness and break Vecna’s control.
Montepiedra also highlights the importance of Hawkins Radio, which has a show hosted by Robin and Steve Harrington, played by Joe Keery.
“The introduction of a radio station in season five is intentional and serves a purpose,” she writes.
“Radios are ideal for reaching the masses from one location.”
“And if the main characters who take control of the radio station are the ones who know the connection between music and Vecna’s curse, then they can offer the people of Hawkins constant protection, disguised as entertainment.”
What is the connection between Vecna and Will?

The series still needs to explore this storyline further, and Noah Schnapp recently told Deadline that it would be explored.
“For Will, we started to see parallels between Will and Vecna,” he said.
“For me, it was very reminiscent of Harry Potter, to the point where I went back and rewatched the films because the relationship between Harry Potter and Voldemort was so close to that of Will and Vecna, exploring those parallels and what they mean.”
He also said he was happy with how the series ended.
“I’m very happy and excited about all of our characters and how the show is ending,” he said.
“I think it does a great job of summarizing everyone’s individual story and doing them all justice.”
Is this really the end?
As the series comes to an end, it would be tempting for the Duffer brothers to consider, at some point, a profitable sequel.
Stranger Things entered Netflix’s Top 10 in the 93 countries tracked by the company, according to Variety, while the fourth season was the first English-language series to surpass the billion hours watched mark on the platform.
But despite its popularity, identical twins Matt and Ross Duffer have ruled out a sequel.
“It’s really the end of the story for Eleven, Mike, Lucas, Dustin, Steve and all these characters – and Hawkins in particular,” said Ross Duffer, according to GamesRadar.
Matt added: “Actually, there’s nothing else worth exploring.”
“The book is closed and the ending wouldn’t have the same impact if we left it ajar for some sort of sequel,” he said.
