Strong winds and intense rains hit the municipality of Farroupilha (RS), in the Serra Gaúcha, about 100 kilometers from the capital Porto Alegre (RS), this Tuesday (23/12). In addition to fallen trees and several houses affected by the storm – reports indicate at least 15 houses – the José Chesini municipal primary school was also completely roofless and flooded.
The school is located in Vila Rica, one of the communities most affected by the storm and where teams from civil defense, firefighters and other security agencies continue to work to help those affected.
According to the town hall, cleaning is underway, as well as the installation of tarpaulins. At the most critical moment of the storm, there was no one there. As electrical wiring has been damaged and fallen into the streets, Civil Defense is advising people not to travel to the affected areas.
