
A student from a gymnasium in Fortaleza (CE) fell ill during training and died on Wednesday afternoon (12/17). The incident occurred at a SmartFit unit on Avenida Engenheiro Santana Jr, in the Papicu neighborhood.
The woman, whose name has not been released, suddenly became ill. According to SmartFit, she was “quickly rescued” and received medical care from a team from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), but did not survive.
Gym death cases
The death in a Fortaleza gymnasium joins a series of cases that have occurred in the country this year. At the end of November, another death was recorded in the capital of Ceará.
Áurea Maria Lima, 54, suddenly fell ill during a spinning class she was doing at a gym in the center of Maranguape, in the Fortaleza metropolitan region.
At some point during the exercise, Áurea began to feel unwell and was quickly helped by people nearby, including medical professionals on site, but she did not respond to the stimuli.
An ambulance was called and quickly arrived on the scene. Áurea was transferred to the nearest hospital during the resuscitation process, but unfortunately she did not survive.
Last July, a 42-year-old man fell ill and died while working out on the treadmill at a gym in Caxias do Sul, Serra Gaúcha. The victim was identified as Matheus Augusto Palauro and, according to Samu information, the man suffered from hypertension and was taking medication to control his blood pressure.
In February, a case in the Federal District. A 46-year-old man died at a gym in Guará after falling and hitting his head on one of the gym’s equipment. He was placed in cardiopulmonary arrest after the accident and died instantly.
The case that has had the greatest repercussions in recent months occurred on December 3 of this year, in Olinda (PE). The victim was doing bench press exercises when he let the bar slip and was hit in the chest. He still got up, but passed out. A video recorded the accident:
