On the last Sunday (21) before the Christmas holidays, which also mark the start of summer in the southern hemisphere, São Paulo is expected to enjoy pleasant weather. The sun is expected to warm the temperature early in the morning, and thermometers are expected to reach 29°C at noon, according to the capital’s CGE (Emergency Management Center).
The minimum temperature is 19°C and sunshine with some clouds may suggest a day of outdoor activities for those wanting to enjoy a sunny Sunday in the capital — or simply rest up before the Christmas holidays. By late afternoon, a sea breeze should ease the sweltering weather, but no rain is forecast.
The minimum humidity index will be 30% – which is also expected to remain on Monday (22), with stable and sunny weather. The minimum temperature will be 20°C and the maximum 32°C in mid-afternoon.
The reason for the heat and sunshine without rain predicted for the next few days is a warm air mass that is expected to arrive and reach the capital. Temperatures are expected to rise, with the maximum temperature reaching 35°C on Wednesday (24), Christmas Eve.
Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology) indicates that the northern and western regions of the state are expected to experience the highest volumes of rain during the weekend, due to the Zcas (South Atlantic Convergence Zone) phenomenon, a system that normally appears in late spring and summer and is characterized by the formation of a corridor of humidity (and thick clouds) from the Amazon to the Southeast region.
According to Inmet, isolated rains are expected in Belém (PA), Cuiabá (MT), Fortaleza (CE), Goiânia (GO), Macapá (AP), Manaus (AM), Palmas (TO), Porto Alegre (RS), Porto Velho (RO), Rio Branco (AC), Salvador (BA), São Luís (MA), Teresina (PI) and Vitória (ES).
The agency recalls that summer in Brazil is characterized by frequent precipitation throughout the territory, with volumes above 400 mm/day, but can be lower in the extreme south of Rio Grande do Sul, northeast of Roraima and east of the Northeast region.
The South-East and the Center-West record rains this season caused mainly by the action of the South Atlantic Convergence Zone (ZCAS), while to the north of the North-East and North regions, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) ends up being the main responsible for the rains.
Precipitation volumes may vary between 700 and 1,100 mm in the North and Central-West regions during the period, on average.
