This weekend, the Ministry of Health is carrying out a group of surgical operations for the Unified Health System (SUS). Nine federal hospitals and institutes linked to the department, 45 university hospitals, Santas Casas and philanthropic entities participate. According to the ministry, this will be the largest collective effort ever organized in the country.
The initiative, which will take place in all states, is part of the Agora Tem Especialistas program, created to expand the offer of consultations, examinations and specialized procedures, thus reducing waiting times in the public health network.
The action was announced this Friday (12/12) by the Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, in Rio de Janeiro.

The Ministry of Health selects 501 specialists to work in the SUS
“There are already more than 200 hospitals registered. All federal university hospitals have already carried out two joint efforts during this year, the last one was in September. And now we have joined Santas Casas, philanthropic hospitals, including some private hospitals that were not serving through the SUS, but started serving through Agora Tem Especialistas. Nothing like this has ever been done in the SUS in Brazil,” he said.
Padilha also spoke about the restructuring of federal hospitals in Rio de Janeiro.
“We are convinced that this restructuring of the federal hospitals of Rio de Janeiro, in partnership with the municipality, in partnership with the state government, can lead to a major restructuring of all hospitals and make Rio de Janeiro hospitals once again earn the title of reference and excellence for the health of our country.”
Investment
The Ministry of Health also announced an investment of 85 million reais to strengthen specialized care in the municipalities of Nilópolis and São João do Meriti, in Baixada Fluminense. The resource will make it possible to expand the offer of consultations, examinations, surgeries and hospitalizations.
