The man suspected of killing Sergeant Belk Viana Thomaz, 39, was arrested this Wednesday, shot dead after being the victim of an attempted robbery in the town known as Buraco do Padre, in Engenho Novo, northern zone of Rio. The criminal, whose identity was not revealed, was also injured and was found, thanks to the exchange of information between the civil and military police, at the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital, in the Center.

An investigation was carried out at the crime scene, near the area’s train station, and security camera footage was analyzed, which revealed the involvement of the injured suspect.
Already at the hospital, where agents of the 5th BPM (Praça da Harmonia) had placed the individual in custody, the team from the Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC) approached the man, who confessed to having shot the PM sergeant, after which he was arrested in flagrante delicto. The information comes from the Civil and Military Police.
Today investigations continue to identify and capture the second person involved in the crime, responsible for driving the motorcycle used in the action.
Affected femoral artery
Sergeant Belk Viana Thomaz, a member of the Police Academy, was captured this morning by bandits who tried to steal his motorcycle. According to the Prime Minister, the agent reacted and there was an exchange of gunfire. Belk was eventually hit in the femoral artery and was transported to the Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital, in Méier, where he was identified as a police officer. The company lamented the death and said it showed solidarity with the police officer’s loved ones.
