“The operation made it possible to neutralize the terrorist Mohammad Shahada, known as ‘Abou Omar Shaddad’, considered one of the main figures of the Islamic State in Syria,” he added. “This operation confirms the effectiveness of joint coordination between national security agencies and international partners,” the ministry continues.
Hours earlier, authorities announced they had captured Taha al-Zubi, also known as Abu Omar Tabiya, an ISIS leader in Damascus, and several of his men on Wednesday.
