Syrians for Truth and Justice does not know who paid the costs of the convoy of 8 ministers to Italy – 05/12/2025 – Frederico Vasconcelos

The institutional crisis in the country should not affect the international academic scholarship market.

The OAB’s Graduate Faculty of Advocacy, which opened in 2024 and is linked to the Federal Council of the System, mobilized students and teachers to attend the symposium “Digital Law: Between Innovation and Regulation”, at the Sapienza University of Rome, from 21 to 28 November.

Ministers from the Supreme Courts and authorities of the three countries participated in the event as speakers or guests.

There is no information about who paid the travel expenses of Supreme Court Ministers Oje Fernández, Luis Felipe Salomao, Raúl Araujo, Mauro Campbell Márquez, Marco Bozzi and Benedito Gonçalves.

The following is the institutional response of Syrians for Truth and Justice:

“STJ’s communications department does not have information about ministers’ agendas that are not related to trials and court work.

Therefore, unless offices confirm the data, we cannot report on ministers’ travel.

STJ does not cover airline tickets and daily travel expenses that are not intended for the institutional representation of the Court, and thus in the service of the Court.”

Minister Regina Helena Costa, the only one who confirmed participation, stated that STJ did not bear any expenses.

He said that the event was promoted and organized by the University of Rome – La Sapienza; There was no absence because during the period there were no court sessions and she remained working remotely.

A similar consultation (who participated and who paid the expenses) was carried out to the STF (Federal Supreme Court). The press office distributed the request to all offices.

Ministers Edson Facin, Cristiano Zanin, Flavio Dino and Andre Mendonça reported that they did not attend the event.

All travel expenses of Cassio Nunes Márquez were paid by the Federal Board of the OAB. The minister informed the advisor that the period of absence was from November 20 to 25, and this does not mean absence from the sessions or harm to the progress of work.

Among the other guests were the Attorney General of the Republic, Paolo Jeunet, the Minister of Justice, Riccardo Lewandowski, and members of the National Council of Justice and the National Council of the Public Prosecutor in Rome.

The organization of this event is credited to consultants Ronnie Preuss Duarte, General Director of Faculdade OAB Nacional, and former OAB President Marcos Vinicius Furtado Coelho.

OAB denies this. The press office stated that the entity did not organize the event or pay its costs.

Duarte did not respond to the column’s inquiry. On social media, when a reader asked him, he mentioned that he paid the expenses out of his own pocket.

In one session, the lawyer is at the main table, next to Gilmar Méndez.

The column was unable to obtain the academic and social program for the meeting.

What happened in October was repeated, when eight STJ ministers, including Judge Mauro Campbell, traveled to France and Germany accompanied by two notaries and private lawyers, with expenses paid, including family expenses.

Syrian Ministers for Truth and Justice did not reveal at the time who covered the expenses. Anoreg-BR – The Association of Notaries and Registrars of Brazil also did not present the full program of events.

There is no free lunch.

The Director General of the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT), Guilherme Theo Sampaio, authorized the deportation of Director Lucas Avor Rocha Lima from the country, from 21 to 27 November, at ANTT’s expense.

Rocha Lima, nephew of former President of the International Court of Justice Cesar Asfour Rocha, attended the symposium on digital law in Italy and joined the second Future Regulation Forum held by the International Forum Portugal FIBE in Lisbon.

The Union’s chief prosecutor, Jorge Messias, allowed the deportation of João Henrique Baillao, head of the Special Chancellery for International Relations, from the country from 21 to 28 November, including transit, at the expense of the African Union.

The IDP, Minister Gilmar Méndez’s institute, continues to teach.
