Amid the repercussions of the new Havaianas ad, São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) took advantage of the inauguration of the first section of the Rodoanel Norte to ride the wave and suggest that the state will start 2026 on the right foot.
“Here in São Paulo we are going to start the new year on the right foot. We have already started removing trucks from the road. And even those who run in Interlagos wanted to come to the inauguration party of Rodoanel Norte”, he said in a video published on his X this Monday 22.
The speech refers to Havaianas’ end-of-year campaign, with Fernanda Torres, in which the actress plays with the expression “right foot” and says she prefers to hope that the public enters 2026 “with both feet”. The piece is part of the brand’s summer campaign.
The play on words, however, fueled polarization: part of the public interpreted the message as a provocation to the right.
The reaction gained ground on the networks, with encouragement for boycotts and hashtags such as #Havaianas NuncaMais and #HavaianasNoLixo; former MP Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) published a video throwing a pair of flip-flops in the trash.
