In São Paulo, the new year will start off on the right foot. This was stated by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) in his content on the inauguration of the first section of the Rodoanel Norte, riding the wave of controversy around the new Havaianas advertisement.
“Here in São Paulo we are going to start the new year on the right foot. We have already started removing the trucks from the Marginal. And even those who run to Interlagos wanted to come to the inauguration party of Rodoanel Norte”, said the governor in a video published on his social networks this Monday 22.

The phrase refers to the text by Fernanda Torres during the Havaianas end-of-year campaign, which is part of the brand’s summer action. At the start of the commercial, she plays with the phrase “right foot”, saying that she prefers people to start the new year with “both feet”.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t want you to start 2026 off on the right foot. No, it’s nothing against luck, but let’s face it: luck doesn’t depend on you, does it? It depends on luck. What I want is for you to start the new year with both feet: two feet in the door, two feet on the road, two feet in the jackfruit, two feet wherever you want. Go with everything, body and soul, from head to toe,” the actress says in the ad.
However, part of the public interpreted this speech as a political attack against the right. Amid these repercussions, former MP Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), for example, posted a video throwing a pair of the brand’s flip-flops in the trash. Influencers also posted videos criticizing the brand, saying the company had mixed “sandals and ideology.”
Havaianas has not yet commented on the controversy surrounding the ad until the publication of this report.
