The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), declared this Monday (8) to support the candidacy of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) for president. However, Tarcísio, who was tipped to run for the same position, said the right must have other candidates in the elections.
“He (Flávio) was with me last Friday (5)
“Flávio will count on us. Flávio now has a great responsibility because he joins other big names in the opposition who have already announced their names,” he added, citing Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil) and Ratinho Jr. (PSD) as alternatives.
These statements were made during a hectic press conference, during which the governor repeatedly tried to avoid the subject and preferred to address topics such as Cracolândia and the metro works.
Tarcísio has not yet commented on the candidacy of Flávio, who announced his candidacy last Friday (5). According to Leaf According to his allies, the launch of Bolsonaro’s son’s candidacy was seen as a humiliation for the governor, because it demonstrated that Tarcísio did not have political autonomy.
Commenting on the nomination, Tarcísio was asked about the Datafolha investigation which placed him better placed than Flávio in a conflict against Lula (PT). “We will evaluate this over time, it’s early. We have time to mature,” he replied.
The governor, however, delivered a speech critical of the federal government, emphasizing that in his opinion a change of direction is necessary. “We have to discuss the structural problems of Brazil and that is what will be on the table. And we will organize this (right) group because we have a convergence of ideas, a convergence of project, so that we can organize politics to find solutions, find solutions to resolve these problems,” he said.
The governor’s statements came during an event marking the inauguration of a health center in Diadema, ABC Paulista. Journalists asked what the reactions of the financial market were to this announcement and what was the delay in the declaration, but Tarcísio did not respond. The event was full of supporters and there were shouts of “president” for Tarcísio, who listened without reprimand.
The governor had been designated by center-right party leaders as the main candidate in the campaign against Lula next year. Although he never admitted this proposition, a series of statements by Tarcísio, particularly regarding events in the financial markets, were interpreted as signs of his willingness to compete.
One of the most recent signs occurred in mid-November, when the governor participated in a conference for the G4 Education group, in which he declared that if he “changed the CEO”, Brazil would return to its functioning, in an indirect criticism of Lula.
On the 25th, however, moments after the STF (Federal Supreme Court) confirmed the final and final decision (conclusion) of the trial against Bolsonaro, which confirmed his arrest, Tarcísio declared that he was “out of the pool” of possible names in the litigation.
