Christmas will be extremely hot for the states in the southeastern region of Brazil. According to alerts published by the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), temperatures 5°C above average are expected in large parts of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Minas Gerais. The maximum temperature is 40°C in the capital Rio de Janeiro, 34°C in São Paulo and 32°C in Belo Horizonte (MG). There is no rain forecast for the region.

— The heat in the southeast is attracting a lot of attention, as São Paulo can reach 36°C this Thursday. If this happens, it will be the highest temperature recorded on a December day since 1963. So, the Christmas present could take the form of a heat record — explains meteorologist Cesa Soares, from Climatempo.
In the South, the rain persists with the passage of a cold front, which is heading towards the ocean. Rainfall of up to 100 mm/day is expected, with intense winds of 100 km/h and a risk of hail. Despite the storms, the weather remains heavy in the region. Thermometers indicate 33°C in Florianópolis (SC) and Curitiba (PR).
Humidity and heat favor showers in the northern and central-western regions. States like Amazonas, Acre, Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul will experience accumulations of up to 50 mm/day. The maximum is 30°C for Manaus (AM) and 31°C for Rio Branco (AC). Thermometers also indicate 35°C in Cuiabá (MT) and Campo Grande (MS).
Instability and heat also persist in northeastern Brazil, due to an intertropical convergence zone that favors the formation of deep clouds. There is a possibility of rain showers in the states of Alagoas, Sergipe and Bahia. The maximum is 31°C in Maceió (AL) and Salvador (BA), and 30°C in Aracaju (SE).

The recommendation of the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) is that the population avoids facing bad weather, observes changes in slope and, if possible, turns off electrical appliances and the general energy supply. The Institute also leaves a series of instructions for residents of areas that could be most affected by the rains. Look:
- Turn off electrical appliances and the general power supply;
- Observe changes in slope;
- Stay in a sheltered area and, in case of gusty winds, do not take shelter under trees, due to the slight risk of falling and electric shock, and do not park vehicles near transmission towers and advertising signs;
- In case of flooding or similar, protect your belongings from water by packing them in plastic bags;
- Obtain more information from Civil Protection (telephone 199) and the firefighters (telephone 193).
