Remember the career of a big name in television fiction who marked an era as the protagonist of the soap opera currently rebroadcast in the afternoon
Originally broadcast on Globo in 1999, Terra Nostra is a Brazilian soap opera written by Benedito Ruy Barbosa which depicts Italian immigration to Brazil at the end of the 19th century. The story addresses the cultural conflicts, prejudices, difficulties and romances experienced between immigrants and Brazilians.
The production recently returned to air on the Plim-Plim schedule, occupying the “To see again” and enter the place of “Love story”.
The soap opera alone had already won over a legion of fans thanks to its engaging storytelling and memorable characters. The rebroadcast has reignited the emotions of those who follow – or wish to relive – these remarkable moments from the TV series.
Among the casting highlights was Raul Cortesresponsible for giving life to the protagonist Francesco Magliano, one of the central characters of the plot.
In 2004, the actor was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and had to undergo surgery to remove a tumor in his abdominal area. After the procedure, he also had to face chemotherapy sessions.
Two years later, in 2006, the worsening of his illness led him to temporarily interrupt his performance in the soap opera. “Lady of Destiny”.
His last television work was in the miniseries “JK”in which he plays the politician Antônio Carlos Ribeiro de Andrade.
Despite all the resistance and treatments, Raul Cortez died on July 18, 2006, at the age of 73, after a tough battle with pancreatic cancer.
