To protect the integrity of the civilian population in the event of a second attack, people in the area were immediately evacuated. Authorities have not yet commented on the events, so there are no records of injuries or deaths.

On November 26, 2025, an explosion targeting a National Army tractor-trailer rocked the Pan-American Highway near the municipality of Patía, Cauca, in the Patía River basin. Military sources confirmed that the attack, attributed to a minefield in a prepared area, killed José Cabrera Valenzuela, an organic civilian of the facility and suspected driver of the vehicle, and injured professional soldier Arnulfo Lizcano Zapata, who was taken to the El Bordo hospital. The explosion completely destroyed the semi-truck and led to a precautionary closure of the road to inspect the area and rule out the presence of additional explosives.
The structure of Carlos Patiño, dissident of the former FARC under the command of alias Iván Mordisco maintains a strong presence in this region of Cauca and, according to previous reports, is responsible for repeated attacks on public violence with explosive devices and other serious crimes.
The National Army immediately deployed special forces, organized a Rapid Reaction Force (FRI) at the helipad, coordinated support with the National Police and began troop movement to increase security in the region. In a statement, the institution categorically rejected the terrorist attack, noting that “it violates international humanitarian law and attacks the lives and integrity of our soldiers and civilians.”

The violence on the Pan-American Highway is not limited to bomb attacks. On November 25, 2025, an illegal checkpoint set up by suspected members of the Carlos Patiño Front in the town of Párraga, municipality of Rosas, resulted in the theft of several vehicles, including that of a local deputy..
Among those affected was MP Víctor Armero, who returned to Popayán after his mother’s funeral in Algeria. Both he and his security system were threatened with long-range weapons. Armero reported on social networks: “Fortunately we are fine, we arrived in the city of Popayán and have filed the relevant complaints and they will be responsible for clarifying the matter.”
The actions of the armed groups also affected indigenous leaders of the Colombian Massif, members of the Cabildo of Caquiona, who were victims of the theft of their vehicle. The violent action extended to the Nariño department, where in the district of El Manzano another criminal group blocked the road, crossed cars and robbed vans of their belongings. This illegal checkpoint, carried out by armed men, occurred a day before the bombing on the same highway.
The government of Cauca explained the nature of these events: “Some people stop some vehicles. This seems to be a theft scenario because money was stolen; some vehicles are stolen, the people make graffiti alluding to a structure of the central general staff of the FARC dissidents.” The presence of graffiti with dissident messages reinforces the hypothesis that these groups attempt to mark territory and send messages of intimidation.
The authorities announced the temporary reinforcement of security and the intensification of patrols on the Pan-American Highwaywhile the case is still under investigation and new official statements are awaited.
