The latest barometer from the Center for Sociological Research (CIS) led by the socialist José Félix Tezanos once again gives victory to the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) in a so-called election with 31.4% of the votes. The Popular Party (PP) would come in second position … place with 22.4% support. The Socialists, involved in new scandals of corruption and sexual harassment within the party, lost one point compared to the 32.6% obtained in November.
Vox would repeat itself as a third political force and would convince 17.6% of voters, losing one point compared to November. Sumar, with 7.8% and Podemos, with 4.1%, would obtain very similar results to those of last month. Alianza Catalana is presented as the novelty of this barometer: it appears for the first time in its history with an estimate of 0.5% of the votes.
As usual, no politician passes public scrutiny. The President of the Government, according to the survey, is the highest rated politician, even if he fails with an average rating of 4.08; Yolanda Díaz follows closely and gets a 4.01. Alberto Núñez Feijóo stands out from his left-wing rivals and obtains a 3.39. Abascal closes the list with a 2.90.
The preferred political leader to govern in Spain would be Sánchez according to 36.8% of those questioned, 20 points ahead of Feijóo, who would be the one chosen by 16.8% of the population. The popular leader would narrowly beat the president of Vox, preferred by 15.1%.
The possibility of Gabriel Rufián being president of the government is appreciated by at least 8.2% of people who responded to the CEI’s questions. He surpasses Yolanda Díaz, who does not reach 7%.
Housing, the main concern of Spaniards
The question of housing repeats, for another month, the main concern of the Spaniards. 39.9% consider this a problem. The economic crisis comes in second place with 21.8% despite the period of prosperity that Spain is experiencing, according to the Executive. Political problems in general concern 19.1% and come in third place.
On a racism scale ranging from 0 (not at all racist) to 10 (very racist), Spaniards rank on average at 1.78. When asked where they place Spanish society as a whole, with the same scale, the average is 5.24.
