According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Latin music reached an impressive milestone in 2024 with sales of $1.4 billion in the United States, an 18% increase over the 2005 record.
This is the third year in a row that the genre has grossed over a billion, thanks in large part to the rise of streaming platforms, which account for 98% of sales.
The RIAA, quoted by the EFE agency, emphasizes that this is the ninth consecutive year in which growth exceeds that of the entire music industry in the United States, with an increase of 5.8% compared to last year.
In this regard, Rafael Fernández Jr., Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Latin American Music of the said association, highlighted how streaming platforms are eliminating language barriers and changing the musical panorama in the country.
In terms of revenue, free platforms with advertising such as YouTube and Spotify generated $354 million, while paid subscriptions dominated the collection, concentrating two-thirds of revenue with a growth of 6% to $967 million.
