The Bay of Palma will once again be the scene of an international Dragon class competition with the resumption this Friday, December 12 of the IX Puerto Portals Dragon Winter Series, organized by the Puerto Portals Regatta Club. The second round, … which will last until next Sunday 14, resumes its activity after a first phase marked by equality.
The Swiss crew of the Jupiter, led by Ben Kolf, is at the top of the provisional ranking of the competition after competing last November in the first five events of the program. The Swiss boat has 9 points and is behind Michael Zankel’s Easy, who is in second position with 13 points, and Nicola Friese’s Khalessi, who is third with 20 points.
For this second round of the IX Puerto Portals Dragon Winter Series, we expect a fleet made up of more than 30 boats from a dozen countries who will face a program including a maximum of six tests, two per day, throughout the weekend.
Tomorrow Friday, the competition will begin with the skippers’ meeting which will take place at 10:00 a.m. The warning signal for the first start will be given on the same day at 12:00 p.m., while on Saturday and Sunday the regattas will start at 11:00 a.m. Weather reports predict northeast winds of between 8 and 9 knots for the first day.
The regattas will once again coincide with the celebration of the traditional Puerto Portals Christmas market, which will open next Saturday and remain open until January 6. The market, which has wooden stands decorated with light garlands and fir trees that offer a wide variety of Christmas products, is complemented by a magnificent gastronomic offer and an extensive program of activities.
Puerto Portals has become a benchmark for the Dragon class in the Mediterranean and many of these ships choose this location as their base every year. Furthermore, the Puerto Portals Regatta Club will organize this season in 2026 the Dragon Gold Cup, a high-level event, equivalent to a European or world event, which could bring together around 80 boats.
