The American actress reveals her favorite ‘kisser’ and comments on the harmony they felt while recording the film, which won seven Oscar statuettes
Considered the greatest actress of her generation and one of the greatest of all time, Meryl Streep has an extensive track record in film and the performing arts as a whole.
The actress of classics like Manhattan (1979), Sophie’s choice (1982), Madison Bridges (1995) and The devil wears Prada (2006), among others, exudes knowledge of the facts in Hollywood. Even when it comes to giving out an unusual “prize”.
Meryl Streep once chose the actor who gave her the best kiss on stage (via Express). The “winner” was the recently deceased Robert Redford, with whom she starred in the film Out of Africa (Between two lovesIn Brazil), launched in 1985 and rewarded with seven statuettes from the Oscar.
According to her, the harmony between the two during recording was something totally different. They “They got along very well”even to the point of irritating the director Sydney Pollackwho didn’t want “distractions”.
In a statement highlighted by New York Postthe actor went on to say:
“It had repercussions. We liked to talk. We relaxed off camera, between takes. We had a shared sense of humor. But Sydney didn’t like that. He would interrupt our conversations.”
A specific scene from the film Between two loves was marked when Redford washes Streep’s hair by a river. For the actress, it was a moment of such complicity between them that it could be compared to a sex scene.
She explained:
“It’s a sex scene, in a way, because it’s very intimate. We’ve seen so many scenes of people making love, but we don’t see that tender touch, that caring.”
Meryl Streep also highlighted how her relationship with Robert Redford influenced her in raising her children:
“Robert Redford taught me that when children were babies, ‘they are not your accessories’. I really admired the way he protected his family. It was something I consciously emulated.”
Robert Redford died in his sleep on September 16, aged 89. The cause of his death has not been revealed at this time.
