The labor reform project presented to the Senate by President Javier Milei has taken an important step forward thanks to an agreement reached by La Libertad Avanza (LLA) with the non-Peronist blocs to start the debate in the committees this Wednesday, with the aim of signing the opinion on Friday and voting on it at the meeting on Friday, December 26th.
This was confirmed by the leader of the LLA bloc, Patricia Bullrich, to the press accredited in Congress, among others iProfessionalleaving the parliamentary Labor session led by Senate President Victoria Villarruel with the chairmen of all benches.
“The commissions start tomorrow and we normally meet on the 26th,” The libertarian leader assured that she would chair the Labor and Social Commission only for the debate on labor reform. This decision shows the ruling party’s interest in maintaining control and ensuring “explicit” treatment of the project.
The decisive progress in this direction came at the parliamentary working session, where a fundamental agreement was confirmed between the LLA and the dialogue blocs to retain the majority of places in the Commissions of Labor, Budget and Finance, Mines and Environment and to reject the Unión por la Patria, which rejects the government’s plight.
Labor reform begins to be debated: what is the ruling party’s schedule?
La Libertad Avanza had the support of the UCR, the PRO, the Civic Front of Luis Juez, Independencia (a bloc responding to the governor of Tucumán, Osvaldo Jaldo), the Federal Union, the monobloc of Flavia Royón of Salta and that of Julieta Corroza of Neuquén to prevail against Peronism.
In view of all these blockages, an agreement was presented at the meeting by 44 senators compared to the 28 senators of the Unión por la Patria for the integration of the commissions. This did not go down well with the Peronist bank. Juliana di Tullio was the first to leave the meeting and shortly after José Mayans “offended on the left”As I said iProfessional a source with access to the meeting.
Aside from that, Peronism had proposed an endless list of 100 guests who would take part in the debate in commissions on labor reform, which of course would prevent the treatment from progressing at the pace the government wanted, but the ruling party and its allies eventually managed to shorten it to 15.
After this step was completed, the senators agreed on a work plan that begins this Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. to officially establish the four commissions. At 11:00 a.m. the Labor Committee and the Budget and Finance Committee will begin the debate on labor reform.
Labor Secretary Julio Cordero and officials from the Ministry of Economy will attend the meeting. In addition, the ruling party accepted that between Wednesday and Friday the representatives of the CGT, who had already announced their rejection of the project presented by the executive and an important mobilization in the Plaza de Mayo for Thursday, would also be invited.
