The municipal government has increased its investment in the Alcázar of Seville by 75% since coming to power in mid-2023. These are the main data extracted from the ordinary session of the Directing Council of the Board of Directors of Real Alcázar and City Hall … . In this one, Ana Jaureguithe general director of the monument, reported on the budget and the intense management activity carried out over the last year in the oldest royal palace still in use in Europe.
Juan Bueno He stressed that in budgetary matters, it is necessary to highlight the significant growth recorded since the arrival of the current government team. “When we took over management in 2023, the board’s budget was around 12.9 million euros and today, it exceeds 21 millionwhich represents an increase of almost 75% in just two years.
This budget increase made it possible to consistently strengthen key positions such as technical studies and works, archaeological research and heritage conservation, essential to guarantee rigorous and quality actions. In this sense, within the Historical Heritage and Archeology program, real investments increase by 197.58%, reaching almost six million euros. “This data clearly reflects the way work is carried out at the Alcazar, with a long-term vision and with projects of maximum historical and heritage importance,” said Juan Bueno.
This meeting also served to explain the major actions planned at the time such as the intervention in the Arbor of Charles V -main representation on the occasion of the anniversary of the fifth centenary of the marriage of Charles V and Isabella of Portugal- and the new exhibition hall, with an investment of more than two million euros; the conservation of the carpentry and railings of the Town Hall; the conditioning ofa house number 7 – 8 as a future interpretation center; the continuity of the plasterwork and subsequent tiling of the Mudéjar Palace; as well as the complete restoration of the historic carpentry of the entire monument, including elements not addressed until now such as the gate of the Plaza del Triunfo.
“As for the management carried out during the year 2025, the emphasis was placed on the reorganization and improvement of the exhibition spaces, with actions in the Sala Carranza, the Sala de los Abanicos and the half basement of the Mudéjar Palacecurrently in the call for tenders phase for its complete museographic equipment. Likewise, the Master’s Library has been completed and progress will be made in the modernization of the Master’s Hall, which will have updated equipment for meetings and video conferencing,” Bueno added.
Advances in security
The Board of Directors also took note of the advances in security and conservation, such as the installation of lifelines and the cleaning of roofs in different areas of the monumental complex, as well as performances at the Apeadero and the Casa del Inglés, which will end early next year. Added to this are works such as the covering of the Mareantes chapel and the renovation of the cafeteria, the execution of which will begin after the Heritage Commission procedure.
A commission of experts will be created which will act as an advisory body for future interventions.
Inside cultural fieldhigh-level programming has been highlighted, with initiatives such as the Almirante piano cycle, Christmas activities, the third edition of Naturaleza Encendida, the Sorolla exhibition and the lyrical concerts of the Christmas Ambassadors, among others.
Likewise, Bueno reported the creation of a commission of experts composed of architects of recognized prestige and the technical team of the Alcázar, which will act as an advisory body for future interventions, especially with regard to the actions planned in the Patio del Yeso. This commission will enable preliminary studies and tests to be carried out and urgent works arising from recent rains and accumulated conservation needs to be addressed.
Finally, Juan Bueno concluded by emphasizing that “the Real Alcázar is experiencing a key moment, with solvent management, ambitious planning and a clear commitment from the City Council to protect and project one of the main historical heritages of Seville and the world”.
