The president of the municipal group of Barcelona in Comú, Janet Sanz, said goodbye this Friday in plenary session after 14 years as municipal councilor of the Catalan capital. Sanz entered the city council in 2011 as number 4 on the ICV list, at the age of 27.
“Many people are surprised, but the anomaly is not wanting to leave politics,” he said in his farewell, during his last plenary session. Sanz considers herself “satisfied, satisfied and with a clear conscience”, after having had the “privilege of rethinking and remaking” the city.
In fact, during Colau’s mandates, she was responsible for the area of town planning, from where she promoted super islands, pacifications, the connection of the tramway, the limitation of new hotels or the suspension of licenses for tourist apartments. “Urban planning can change everything, it can build rights and undo privileges,” he stressed.
“I tried to disturb because if I disturbed, it was because I transformed myself,” said the president of BComú, who warned that it was necessary to give citizens confidence in institutions because “people are tired of promises.”
Sanz ended his stay at City Hall by receiving good words from representatives of other parties, such as Mayor Jaume Collboni, who recognized his “bravery and courage”. Likewise, he recognized that Sanz “will undoubtedly mark an era”.
Deputy Mayor Laia Bonet also praised the woman they have known for years, since they were a professor and student of urban planning law. “Who could have told us that we would have intense debates, to say the least, in this house,” Bonet reflects.
He also had political disagreements with Jordi Martí, president of Junts in Barcelona, who thanked him for his work despite the political disagreements. “We will continue to be at the border, wherever we are,” he concluded.
From the ERC, Jordi Coronas highlighted the importance of Sanz and thanked him for “the hours of discussions”, while wishing him “a good journey”. For his part, Daniel Sirera, of the PP, recognized “the perseverance and commitment of the city”. Finally, from Vox, Gonzalo de Oro Pulido wished him “the worst politically and the best personally”.
Gemma Tarafa, at the head of the Comuns
When Janet Sanz presents the minutes as councilor, the presidency of the Barcelona en Comú municipal group will pass into the hands of Gemma Tarafa. Until now, Tarafa was spokesperson for Barcelona en Comú, a position that Marc Serra will now assume. Councilor Pau González, for his part, will succeed Serra and become deputy spokesperson for the municipal group.
On the other hand, with the departure of Sanz, a new councilor enters the municipal group: Tania Corrons. Born in Manresa, Bages (1978), she graduated in Business Administration and Management at ESADE and completed a master’s degree in Citizenship and Human Rights at UB.
For twenty years, he has worked in the economic and financial management of private companies and NGOs. He was a member of the BComú executive (2021-2023), where he was responsible for finances and party spokesperson. Currently he is responsible for the Organization and Territory of the Commons and advises the Provincial Deputation of Barcelona.
