In just over a decade, Forestalia has gone from a name known only in Zaragoza business circles to establishing itself as one of the most influential players in the Spanish renewable energy sector. Its growth coincides with the explosion of green projects in Aragon and with increasing media and political attention.
The company was founded in 2011 by the Zaragoza businessman Fernando Samper, heir to the historic Jorge group (one of the leading companies in the Aragonese meat sector). After breaking up with his brothers, Samper decides to undertake his own project focused on clean energy, at a time when the sector is going through a deep crisis.
He the first big breakthrough will take place in 2016when Forestalia obtains more than 400 MW during the state auction which reactivated the market after years of paralysis. This prize marks its definitive emergence and positions it as an emerging alternative compared to large traditional electricity companies.

From then on, the company continued with new successes in different calls for tenders, thus strengthening its domination in Aragon. Currently, more than 1,500 MW of wind energy and nearly 500 MW of photovoltaic energy are in operation.distributed mainly in the regions of Zaragoza where the deployment of renewable energies has completely transformed the energy landscape.
This growth favors its leap towards strategic industrial alliances. Forestalia agreed with the Chinese company CGE to develop some 1,000 MW of renewable energy to power the future battery gigafactory planned by Stellantis and CATL in Zaragoza, one of the largest industrial projects in the region.
At the same time, the company promoted an ambitious technological plan: the construction of several data centers in three municipalities of Zaragoza. The initiative, valued at approximately 12 billion euroswas presented as the second largest investment announced in Aragongenerating an expectation… and also a certain “resentment” in certain territories.
However, The group’s rise to power was not without controversy. In recent years, there has been criticism over the signing of former high-ranking officials, complaints about alleged fragmentation of projects, and debates over Inaga’s role in dealing with renewable macroparks. Although a parliamentary committee ruled out irregularities, doubts accompanied the company’s rapid growth.

At the same time, a third person was arrested in Biscay and an apartment on Diego de León Street in Madrid, the location of meetings linked to the investigation, was searched.
The controversy has also spread into the political sphere. In plenary session of the Cortes, Aragonese President Jorge Azcón questioned the reliability of the PSOE after having read the files, ensuring that “They are not trustworthy” and rejecting any possibility of a budgetary agreement with the socialists in this context.
The Civil Guard is currently entering Aragonese companies directly linked to the Socialist Party.
This is exactly what we mean when we say that the PSOE cannot be trusted. pic.twitter.com/fFdOlpMVOI
