On Tuesday, Senator Carlos Viana, from the Podemos MG party, sent a letter to the Federal Supreme Court requesting permission to visit former President Jair Bolsonaro in prison. As we know, the retired captain is serving a prison sentence of more than 27 years.
Viana stated in the letter that it was “a purely humanitarian and institutional visit, and has no legal character.” He also says he “realizes that the meeting must observe the protocols” set by the STF.
The senator from Minas Gerais is the author of the bill that could free Bolsonaro from prison. Viana proposes to Congress that the crimes of abolition of the democratic rule of law and coup d’état no longer exist. If this change is approved, it will reduce the former president’s sentence to six years, which will free him from the closed system.
