According to the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), the commissioning of the project will allow a significant reduction in transport times to Urabá.
The truck journey between the country’s main production centers and this subregion will take from 21 to nine hours, which will have a direct impact on the competitiveness of exports and the mobility of goods destined for the ports of the Caribbean and the Pacific The time.
The plant, developed by Autopistas Urabá SAS under the fourth generation (4G) concession model, has an extension of 254 kilometers and is distributed in six functional units between Cañasgordas and Necoclí.
The implementation required dealing with one of the most complex regions in Colombia. through sophisticated solutions that included the construction of 13 tunnels and 62 bridges.

One of the milestones of the project is the Femia Tunnel, which is the longest in the corridor at 2.2 kilometers. This infrastructure is constantly monitored by the Operations Control Center, supported by intelligent transport systems and a fiber optic network that allows real-time monitoring of safety and traffic conditions.
The benefits of the project are also reflected in regional mobility. With the commissioning of the 15.5-kilometer-long Femia bypass and the 45.8-kilometer-long dual carriageway between El Tigre and Necoclí, the travel time between Uramita and Damitba will be reduced from 45 to 15 minutes, facilitating daily trips and strengthening integration between communities.
Although the main work is practically completed, It was confirmed that the project will continue in 2026 with complementary interventions.
Among them, the construction of a false tunnel in Uramita stands out, work on which will begin in December 2025 and last 30 months. The structure will include slope stabilization systems and advanced hydraulic solutions and create jobs for 117 workers.
These measures also include moving the Fuemia toll by approximately 4.7 kilometers to the municipality of Uramita. as part of the development of the Femia variant.

As Roberto Uparela, Executive Vice President of ANI, explained, the new station will have six lanes, two of which are designed for electronic payments, and will not entail any tariff increases, as it is a measure aimed at improving traffic safety and operational efficiency.
The Works for Taxes mechanism has consolidated Antioquia as one of the main players in the national panorama of social investments, according to the management report presented by the Government of Antioquia.
In 2025, 404 billion pesos were invested in 24 projectsthe department administration reaffirmed its leadership role in this project.
“From Antioquia we have led the Works for Taxes initiative at the national level,” José Leonidas Tobón Torreglosa, manager of special projects for the Government of Antioquia, assured the official media.

The scope of these initiatives was broad as they impacted key areas such as public education, childhood, health, road infrastructure, risk reduction, drinking water and basic sanitation, and covered Antioquia’s 55 municipalities.
The projects were implemented under the Trust Option and Agreement Option modalities with the direct involvement of the private sector.
In this context, Tobón explained: “This strategy allows taxpayers to direct their resources toward projects that reach priority communities in the department.”
