THE Minister of Health of Madrid, Fátima Matuteappeared this Wednesday at a press conference following the Government Council which he chaired Isabel Diaz Ayusoone day after meeting the president of Ribera Salud to know his explanations … about the controversial audio of the director of the Torrejón Hospital, in which he defended adjustments to improve the company’s results. Matute was categorical after the inspections which intensified in recent days and concluded that there were no changes in the care in Torrejón and that the professionals did not receive any orders on this matter “until yesterday”.
The advisor accused the Sánchez government of using public health to “cover up” its corruption scandals. “The disproportionate attacks we have witnessed are the result of the political opportunism of a government cornered by corruption and which saw a niche of opportunity to cover up all its miseries, with a Minister of Health stuck in a strike.”
The advisor believes that Minister Mónica García, whom she called the day before “the Vallecas shooter”, will remain “considered a traitor” among health professionals because of her “prejudicial and regressive” framework status. “The government did not hesitate to attack what is most sacred to us, namely the health and the excellent work of the professionals at this hospital, who are excellent,” he insisted. It is for this reason that he described as “unacceptable” the doubts that the Government has aroused in the population.
The advisor clarified that the Community of Madrid carries out continuous management and control work in all hospitals and health centers, to evaluate care, management and quality. Having heard about the Torrejón controversy, they contacted Ribera Salud and that same Wednesday, barely a week ago, they sent two teams of technical inspectors to intensify the work. “All the analyzes show that there has been no change in attendance,” he stressed. He also stressed that the professionals confirmed that they had not received any prescription aimed at reducing the quality and care of patients. And if they had received it, they warned, they would not have fulfilled it.
Matute recalled some data that shows that the care provided at Torrejón Hospital is among the best in the region. Their waiting lists are lower than the average for the Community of Madrid, which is itself lower than the national average. Thus, Torrejón has 42 days of waiting for surgery, compared to 48 days in the Community. And in external consultations, it is 32, compared to 60 in the Community. In addition, he explained that in Torrejón there are almost a hundred thousand more consultations than last year and 700 more operations, with an increase in human resources, up to 1,201 workers.
The advisor is particularly outraged by the “false” accusation that disposable materials are used: “It’s absolutely false,” she said. “Everything is done correctly, it is a despicable lie which attempts to sow chaos and doubt in the population.”
President Ayuso, through social networks, once again expressed all her support for the staff of the Torrejón hospital and its patients, immersed in the eye of the hurricane of the controversy that has shaken this health center for a week. The Coordinator of Public Health Defense Organizations has called a rally this Friday in front of the Torrejón Hospital so that it is managed by the public administration, without agreement with any private group like Ribera Salud.
All my support to the staff of Torrejón Hospital and their patients.
They do not need to be the subject of cowardly political campaigns and demonstrations in the centers where lives are being saved.
There are many places to protest. pic.twitter.com/xtsSle61rn
