The museum brings together around 800 musical instruments/archive
The “Doctor Emilio Azzarini” Music Museum achieved historic recognition by becoming the first Latin American institution to join MIMO (Musical Instrument Museums Online), the global network that brings together the most important public musical instrument collections in the world.
The award came as part of the 40th anniversary of the museum, which was founded in 1985, and underlines its career in the research, preservation and dissemination of musical heritage.
At its headquarters on Calle 45 between 6 and 7, it brings together a collection of around 800 musical instruments from different eras and origins, which Dr. Azzarini himself and his family have donated to the National University of La Plata (UNLP), the institution on which it depends.
La Plata Museum’s accession to MIMO represents a milestone that gives it international visibility, as it is the most prestigious global platform for instrumental heritage, bringing together recordings, images, audio and videos from museums around the world under common standards.
“This achievement is the result of rigorous, years-long work by our team, combining cataloging, photography and research processes according to international standards, which are now recognized by this award,” said Dr. Augusto Pérez Guarnieri, project coordinator.
