Launched in 2018, the third generation BMW Z4 is saying goodbye to the markets. Last week, the German automaker introduced the Z4 Final Edition, a limited edition that features exclusive visual details on the exterior and interior. The new version also marks the end of production of the Z4, which will take place in March next year.

The Ultimate Edition has an exclusive paint as an option

The highlight of the new BMW Z4 Final Edition is its exclusive Frozen Matt Black paint, which is only available for the Limited Edition. The exterior finish features detailing in the M High-gloss Shadowline, also found on all BMW Final Edition models. The launch of the new BMW Z4 Final Edition in the Brazilian market has not yet been confirmed.

In addition to Frozen Matt Black, customers can choose other colors from the BMW Z4 range at no additional cost. Bright red M Sport brake calipers are also part of the Final Edition package. Inside, there is contrasting red stitching, developed specifically for the Final Edition, on the instrument panel, center console, door panels and M sports seats in Vernasca/Alcantara leather.

Another visual highlight is the M steering wheel in Alcantara, with contrast stitching. Meanwhile, the door sills feature a special engraving. The Final Edition package is available on all versions of the Z4, including the most powerful M40i model, which features a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine with 340 horsepower.

History of the BMW Z4: First generation launched in 2002

The BMW Z4 is part of the brand’s long tradition of two-seat convertible sports cars. This series includes models such as the BMW 328 Roadster, BMW 507 and BMW Z8. The BMW Z4 debuted in 2002 as a direct successor to the BMW Z3 launched in 1995.

Like its predecessor, the BMW Roadster, known internally as the E85 series, was produced at the BMW plant in Spartanburg (USA). The pinnacle of the first generation was the BMW Z4 M Roadster, equipped with a 340 hp six-cylinder engine from the BMW M3, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds.

Second generation BMW Z4: same dynamics, folding hardtop as standard

In December 2008, BMW introduced the second generation Z4 to the world. The new model was known internally as the E89 series. It features an all-new, two-section electro-hydraulic retractable hardtop and an aluminum frame.

The roof was standard and could be opened or closed at the touch of a button in just 20 seconds. The interior was also more spacious than the first generation. Furthermore, this was the first time the car started using the BMW iDrive infotainment system.

Third generation BMW Z4: a modern interpretation of the convertible sports car

BMW introduced the third generation BMW Z4 in August 2018. The car brought back the electric fabric roof and got more driver assistance, infotainment and connectivity features. Another highlight is the 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology in the BMW Z4 M40i, which from 2024 has also been offered with a manual transmission in the Pure Impulse Edition.
