The municipality of Santiago del Teide entered the Guinness Record list for the longest nougat in the world, with a total of 1,115.15 meters carried out this Sunday in the Puerto de Santiago square and officially certified.
THE … The validation of the record was carried out by the official judge of Guinness World Records, Anouk de Timary, once the production, measurement and verification process was completed in accordance with the strict technical and health requirements required by the international organization.
The action was organized by the Santiago del Teide City Council, in collaboration with the Association of Entrepreneurs and Traders of Santiago del Teide (ASEMTEIDE), ACYRE Canarias, ACYRE Madrid and with the support of Tenerife Tourism.
The record nougat was made with local ingredients linked to the Canarian pastry tradition: almond, honey, gofio, banana and sugar, and was coordinated by chef Pablo Pastor and professionals from the gastronomic sector, in collaboration with members of ACYRE Canarias and ACYRE Madrid, local producers and qualified technical staff.
Hundreds of people participated in the different phases of the event, which combined gastronomy, cultural revitalization and a local market, consolidating itself as a large collective event open to the public. Beyond the results, the initiative included an important social component, since The nougat produced was donated to 20 social organizations of the municipality, who work with families in vulnerable situations, also guaranteeing a responsible distribution plan without food waste.
In the words of the mayor, Emilio Navarro, “the most social part of this project is the one that interests us the most from the beginning, we want that during these holidays no house in Tenerife is left without a piece of this typical Christmas treat made with our local product”.
Nougat against Alzheimer’s
The Canary Islands also celebrated nougat on other islands and towns, such as Moya (Gran Canaria) and its 200-meter-long chocolate nougat thanks to the support of the Town Hall in collaboration with Tirma, chef Aridane Rivero, pastry chef Yeray Reyes and CIFP Felo Monzón Grau Bassas.
The people who participated in the tasting made a symbolic contribution of one euro, the profits of which were entirely donated to the Tabaiba Moya Association of People Close to Alzheimer’s Disease (AFA), which works to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
In total, 240 kilos of chocolate, 70 kilos of hazelnut praline and 80 kilos of Tirma ambrosia filling were used. In addition, two meters of gluten-free and nut-free nougat have been made for everyone to enjoy and sweeten the afternoon.
