The Senate Commission on Constitution and Justice (CCJ) approved this Wednesday the so-called PL Dosimetry, which could reduce the sentences of those found guilty of participating in the acts of January 8, 2023, including former President Jair Bolsonaro, Agência Senado reported.
After six hours of sitting, the result of the vote was 17 senators for and 7 against. The text was submitted to the plenary of the House, where it should be voted on this Wednesday.
According to Agência Senado, even after four hours of requesting opinions to analyze the report of Senator Esperidião Amin (PP-SC), there was no consensus among parliamentarians on the advantages that will benefit criminals.
Last week, the Chamber of Deputies approved, by 291 votes to 148, the project to reduce the sentences of convicts, including Bolsonaro, whose period in a closed regime could go from almost 7 years to 2 years and 4 months, according to the calculations of the Chamber’s rapporteur, deputy Paulinho da Força (Solidariedade-SP).
At the CCJ, Amin said that since it was conceived in the House, the project seeks to “correct distortions” by focusing on condemning the undemocratic acts of January 8.
