It only lasted 17 seconds, but it marked one of the most memorable moments in the League. Thanks to Espanyol legend Raúl Tamudo’s precise header, Barça lost the title in one fell swoop in 2007 and surrendered it to Real Madrid; but another objective … In stoppage time against Granada, he also changed Rayo’s destiny and saved the Vallecas team from relegation to the Second Division. The goal was scored on May 13, 2012, but even though more than a decade has passed, fans have never forgotten it. And to keep it a record, the walls surrounding the Avenida de la Albufera stadium captured this epic celebration for posterity.
This is just one of the memorable scenes of his career that the members of the Federation of Supporters Clubs and the Platform of Sports Associations of Rayo (ADRV), in collaboration with the Community of Madrid, have sealed forever on the walls of the stadium. Among the selected scenes are an image of Miguel Ángel Sánchez Muñoz “Míchel” celebrating a hat trick against Real Sociedad, the Matagigantes team or the Felines footballer’s recreation. Added to this are the celebration of one of the goals against the Girondins de Bordeaux in UEFA in 2001, that of Guilherme Alves at the Bernabéu in 1996, the participation of the women’s team in the Champions League three consecutive years and even the first documented photograph of the ADRV.
This action is part of the first phase of renovation of the Vallecas stadium, after the complete restoration of its two roofs and the repair of the facades on Albufera Avenue and Arroyo del Olivar Street. The large planter at the entrance to the ticket offices which made smooth circulation difficult was replaced by a staircase with guardrails in accordance with safety regulations.
Likewise, inside the venue the toilets have been renovated, while in the federation area (boxing, table tennis, chess and billiards) new air conditioning and extraction systems have been installed with security improvements. The Government of the Community of Madrid will continue to work in coordination with the Rayista club and La Liga in the project of its overall reform. With this transformation, they intend to be able to accommodate 20,000 spectators, that is to say, to expand the stadium with 6,000 additional seats without changing its location, despite the fact that it is embedded in the middle of a densely populated area.
