THE Cercanías C-3 Line of Renfe in the center of Valencia, the most damaged by the catastrophic DANA of October 29, 2024, takes a new step this Monday with the reopening in Buñolwhich allows the capital of Turia to be linked again by rail to this municipality and two others: Cheste and Chiva. However, the 46 kilometer section to the end of the line, located in Utiel, is still under construction to completely restore the route. This section alone required an investment of 100 million euros, of which 120 million allocated to the entire line.
With the authorization of this new section, the rail service is expanded from Loriguilla to Buñolafter the last partial reopening allowed a month ago by the department he heads Oscar Puente. Thus, Renfe allows 26 trains per day (13 in each direction) between València Font de Sant Lluís station and the capital of Hoya de Buñol. The intermediate stops will be Xirivella-Alqueries, Aldaia, Loriguilla, the Ricardo Tormo Circuit stop, Cheste and Chiva.
The rail service will be completed, until the new offer is consolidated, with 46 bus lines33 in each direction, which run daily between the capital of Turia and Buñol, also stopping in all intermediate towns of the Renfe C-3 line.
Travelers on the C-3 line who want to reach Gare du Nord can use a C-6 train from Font de Sant Lluís to complete their trip. in the city center. Another option is to perform metro transfer at Valencia Sant Isidre station.
The rail services of line C-3, in the center of Valencia, were established from the Font de Sant Lluís station thanks to the works carried out by Adif for the redevelopment of the big marquee at Gare du Nordincompatible with the parking of diesel-powered trains (those serving C-3) in platform areas covered by the canopy.
Some “complex” works
The resumption of the service between Valencia and Buñol comes after the “complex and laborious” reconstruction operations of the structures, the railway platform and all of the systems and installations destroyed by DANAunderlines the Ministry of Transport.
Only on line C-3 of the Valencia Cercanías core, the investment allocated by Adif for the reconstruction of the infrastructure amounts to 120 million euros. On the same C-3 line, between Buñol and Utiel (a route approximately 46 kilometers long), once the damage caused by flooding has been repaired, rail traffic continues to be interrupted to continue the complete renovation and modernization worksn infrastructure and facilities with an investment in this section alone of more than 100 million euros.
New viaducts in Cheste
The most complex works were those of reconstruction of viaducts of Barranco Grande, Cheste 1 and Cheste 2, with original lengths of 55, 100 and 76 meters respectively, whose structures have been seriously affected or even disappeared, washed away by water. These are new viaducts of greater length and greater spans to adapt them to the new conditions of the canal: the Barranco Grande viaduct has become 136 meters long, and those of Cheste 1 and Cheste 2 have a length of 216 meters each.
In addition, the height of the bridges has been increased, according to current hydraulic and structural criteria which maximize their capacity. In this way, the railway infrastructure is provided with “greater resistance, robustness and durability in the face of new episodes of major floodswhich can also be worsened by the effects of climate change”, they add from Transport.
