Today, Tuesday (2/12), the House of Representatives approved the proposed amendment to the Constitution (PEC) that exempts cars 20 years of manufacture from the Vehicle Ownership Tax (IPVA).

According to the rapporteur, MP Euclides Petersen (Republicanos-MG), the impact of the proposal on the budget is “relatively” low, but he did not give details of the value.
“The impact on the budget of the states and the Federal District is relatively small, taking into account that the IPVA value of old vehicles is low, because they are very cheap cars,” the parliamentarian declared in the opinion.
Currently, only two states, Minas Gerais and Pernambuco, still impose the tax on old vehicles. According to the rapporteur, the Presidential Election Commission specifically seeks to harmonize this rule throughout the country.
“PEC will coordinate with the IPVA exemption for old cars, which is already practiced by many countries, thus avoiding inequality in IPVA collection,” he said.
