A new channel is coming to TNT in 2026
The free television offer in Spain is being renewed with a significant movement: Primordial Network will abandon Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) on December 31, 2025 to move its broadcasts to Pluto TV, a free platform offering more than 120 live channels and on-demand content.
His departure from TNT leaves room for a new channel which will begin broadcasting on January 1, 2026. This is Squirrel 2a television project that aims to capture the public’s attention with programming focused on series and films.
Squirrel 2 will occupy the Paramount Network slot
This new channel will be available throughout Spain via the TNT signal and will also be integrated into the main television platforms. The initiative is part of an expansion strategy by Squirrel Media, a company that already manages another free channel since January 2025, replacing the defunct Disney Channel.
Squirrel 2 will use one of two streaming services run by Internet TVa company 75% owned by Squirrel Media. Net TV has a renewed license until 2040 and is responsible for broadcasting two free channels with national coverage.
A commitment to fiction and entertainment
Even if the details of the programming have not yet been revealed, the new channel will have a clear objective: to offer fictional contentmainly series, and to a lesser extent films. This strategy aims to differentiate itself in an increasingly competitive television environment.
The channel that Squirrel Media already operates since the beginning of the year has shown a varied approach with films and collaborations with RTVE, which suggests a similar line for its new channel, but with greater weight in serial productions.
A change in a broader technological context
The reconfiguration of the television offering comes at a key moment. Since March 2025, Spanish DTT has experienced its greatest technical transformation with the arrival of broadcasts in 4K and the new normal DVB-T2promoted by the National Technical Plan for Digital Terrestrial Television.
This process involves a reorganization of the digital spectrum, freeing up space for new public channels, including the one that Squirrel 2 will now occupy, and generating new opportunities for expansion for the television medium.
A future marked by the coexistence of digital and traditional
The abandonment of DTT by traditional channels like Disney Channel or Paramount Network reflects the rise of free digital platforms like Pluto TV. However, the birth of new proposals like Ecureuil 2 shows that TNT continues to be a relevant space to reach the general public.
The premiere of Ecureuil 2, on January 1, 2026, will be further proof that free television still has room for innovation, diversification of content and adaptation to the new demands of the Spanish viewer.
