The City of Arts and Sciences extends hours and activities during the Christmas holidays until January 6, except December 25 when the Museu de les Ciències will remain closed as well as the Hemisfèric. Special programming … understands the traditional Christmas marketon the Paseo de Arbotantes del Umbracle, with more than 50 craft stands typical of these dates and the Valencian Community, nursery pieces, activities and workshops for children, as well as a wide gastronomic offer.
The general director of the City of Arts and Sciences, Ana Ortellspresented the prizes to the winner and finalists of the “Christmas in the City of Arts and Sciences” drawing competition. The winning drawing is the work of Nuofei L., a fifth-year primary student from CEU San Pablo, who received his prize (entrance tickets to the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències) with the finalists Fernando CG from Colegio Camarena Valterna, Marta SC from CEU San Pablo, Kira K. from Colegio Argos, Diego AR from Colegio La Salle de Paterna, Roman P. and Xinran T. from CEU San Pablo. Also Martín LC from the Camarena Valterna school and Nuria LS from CEIP Miguel Hernández de Torrent.
Christmas programming
He Science Museum offers daily workshops with live experiments “Chemistry in Action,” “Invisible Science,” “Scientist for a Day” (for ages four to eight), and “Robots.” Also the Science Theater with the “Ramona y Cajal” shows. The Secret of the Museum”, a scientific musical comedy and “Alto Voltaje” with demonstrations on electricity, as well as “Espai dels Xiquets”, are content for all audiences of the Museum.
Among the children’s offer, the “Metamorphosis” exhibition. The Power of Transformation is recommended for ages six and up and is organized into five scenes full of color and interactive games. Another of the main proposals of the Science Museum is the exhibition ‘Leonardo da Vinci. 500 years of genius’ which offers visitors an immersive, informative and interactive experience to explore the life and legacy of the great Renaissance artist, who was also a scientific genius.

In theaters through Jan. 6, the stop-motion Christmas special “Christmas Lights” joins the latest space-themed children’s premiere “3,2,1…Let’s Take Off” and the animated film “The Enchanted Reef of Kaluoka`hina 3D.” The program is completed by the screenings “Postcards from Other Worlds”, “Leonardo da Vinci”. The Universal Man’, ‘Aurores. Northern Lights” and “Animal Kingdom,” among others.
Saturday at 8:00 p.m. live planetarium ‘Winter Nights’, which unites music and astronomy to discover what the night sky looks like during the coldest season of the year and which shows black holes, exoplanets, wandering planets, nebulae or blue supergiants on the giant 900 square meter screen of the Hemisfèric.
Christmas market
The Paseo de Arbotantes del Umbracle hosts one more year until January 6 the traditional Christmas market with 50 stands selling crafts typical of these dates, activities and workshops for children, as well as a wide gastronomic offer in food trucks and a thematic restaurant area. At the Christmas market, different activities and demonstrations of Christmas crafts are organized, as well as children’s workshops where children can participate in various creative activities such as Christmas paintings. Every day from 6 p.m. the special Christmas lighting is lit in the City of Arts and Sciences with the stars of the Umbracle, the large tree installed on the promenade and different decorative elements: a porch which welcomes visitors and is at the same time a Christmas photocall and the Christmas star next to the northern lake of Hemisfèric.
