The project provides for operational strengthening and more agents working by 2026
The municipality of Porto Alegre is moving forward in strengthening urban security with the confirmation of eight new bases and posts of the Metropolitan Civil Guard. The structures complement existing units and expand the company’s operational coverage in different regions of the capital.
Among the sites covered are Viaduto da Conceição, Praça México, Orla do Guaíba and Parque Marinha do Brasil, in addition to the areas of Leste, Cruzeiro, Lomba do Pinheiro and Restinga. Some bases are already in the testing phase, while others are still in the planning, tendering or development phase.
According to the municipal administration, the objective is to increase preventive presence, improve service to the population and ensure greater security in public spaces with high traffic of people. The new units will serve as support points for patrols and rapid interventions.
The structural reinforcement is accompanied by an increase in staff. In 2025, around a hundred new agents joined the corporation, thus increasing the intervention capacity of the GCM and strengthening its patrol and urban surveillance actions.
