The Civil Guard, through its official profile TikTokexplained several concepts about new V16 beaconwhich will be mandatory in Spain from January 1, 2026, and also detailed a little tip to know if this device is completely valid or not.
“The v16 beacon will, from January 1, 2026, be the only legal means of signaling for vehicles stopped on the road. You have to use it in an emergency,” the video’s protagonist began in the post.
What vehicles will be needed to use it?
As the Benemérita agent herself assures, the vehicles which are obliged to incorporate this new safety element are “private cars, mixed vehicles, cars intended for the transport of goods and buses”, but… what is really happening with motorcycles? : “Motorcyclists, for their part, will not be obliged to use them, but their use is recommended.”
At the same time, he explains that the beacon emits “a very visible light signal” and directly sends the geolocation of the vehicle in question to the DGT 3.0 platform, which will be responsible for delivering this information through different channels, such as “information panels and GPS devices”.
The tip of the Civil Guard to know if it is valid or not
On the other hand, Benemérita detailed what’s the thing which they use to know if these V16 beacons are really valid or not, since it will be very important to achieve the above-mentioned functions and increase road safety in the event of an accident or problem on the road.
“Does a beacon work? Only those that have successfully passed the certification process and comply with the General Vehicle Regulations. It must have a mark with the name of the testing laboratory and a numerical series“, he admitted.
It should be noted that the triangles, according to the agent, “will not be valid” in our country from January 1, 2026, with only one exception: “Not in Spain, but they will be valid for other vehicles registered in other countries if they are in a situation of international distribution. Place it in the highest part of the vehicle and, if the height does not permit, in the most visible part. Make sure it is always charged and check daily if it is working properly.
