The Ministry of the Presidency has created the Folklore and Traditional Music Awards of Castilla y León, under the name FYT, awards which will be annual and will be awarded during an institutional event and as part of the celebration. … of Community Day, around April 23, according to a decree published this Thursday in the Official Community Journal (Bocyl).
The purpose of these awards is to publicly recognize the work of natural or legal persons, public or private, as well as artistic groups, associations and entities of all kinds that have distinguished themselves by their contribution to the preservation, revitalization, study, interpretation or dissemination of folkloric and traditional music of Castilla y León in any of its expressions, “understanding it as the set of cultural manifestations linked to music, song, dance and popular customs of the Community”, both in its traditional form and in its contemporary adaptations or reinterpretations, which contribute to the preservation, dissemination and enhancement of the intangible heritage and cultural identity of Castilla y León.
Several categories will be established which, at least, must include, among others, an individual award for the exceptional person in the field of folk and traditional music and its different expressions; prize for the best group or traditional music or dance group; and a third for the best initiative for the recovery, research or dissemination of folklore and traditional music in one of its expressions. The regulatory bases establish that only one prize can be awarded per category.
Each of the prizes will have a financial reward, the amount of which will be set in the corresponding calls. Likewise, and when provided for in the call, each reward may include the presentation of a distinctive symbol of the reward.
Cultural associations and entities, folkloric groups, local and provincial institutions, educational establishments, study centers, associations and/or groups of Castilians and Leonese abroad, prestigious personalities linked to the subject of the Awards, as well as other personalities, public or private entities linked to folk music and popular culture and, in particular, to the folklore and musical and dance traditions of Castilla y León. Jury members can also do so during the application submission period.
