The Community of Madrid modifies, as every year, the opening and closing times of the metro service on the occasion of the Christmas, Christmas and New Year holidays. In this way, on December 24, the periurban will finish its route at 10:00 p.m., so the last trains will leave the main stations at 9:30 p.m. The next day, December 25, departure was delayed until 8:00 a.m.
Regarding the first day of the year, January 1, the metro network will start operating at 7:00 a.m. Additionally, on the occasion of New Year’s preúvas and chimes, on December 30 and 31, Sol station will be closed from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. until the end of the service.
To guarantee the movement of citizens by public transport throughout the Christmas period, the regional government will keep the special peri-urban reinforcement system active until January 6 with up to 131% more trains between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., as indicated on the Madrid Metro website.
Thus, the frequencies are increased on these six lines: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10. The initiative is in addition to the increase in peri-urban staff and surveillance in the halls of the stations most frequented by travelers. On November 28, the metropolitan company recorded the historic record for daily demand with a total of 2.82 million trips, exceeding the previous one on the same date in 2024 by 1.5%.
As for Madrid Municipal Transport Company (EMT Madrid) buses, daytime service will end this Wednesday between 8:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m., depending on the line and heading. This Thursday, Christmas Day, it will resume between 7:15 a.m. and 8:45 a.m., also depending on the line and the heading, except on special lines and those serving cemeteries.

On Christmas Day, Airport Express daytime service will resume at 7:40 a.m. from both terminals. As for the circular night lines (NC1-NC2), on Christmas Eve they will provide service from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., with intervals of 35 minutes, and from 4:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., every 70 minutes. Transport interchanges will also change their opening and closing times over the Christmas period. In the cases of Moncloa, Príncipe Pío, Plaza de Castilla and Avenida de América, these modifications will not affect the EMT Madrid service.
At the Plaza Elíptica interchange, the early closure planned for this Wednesday will not affect the last departures. However, during the day on Thursday it will open at 8:00 a.m., so departures of line 155 scheduled before this time will be made from the Lusitana route stop, next to the interchange.
As for intercity buses, service has been increased on line 261 to the Mágicas Navidades park in Torrejón de Ardoz during public holidays and weekends, as well as to the Móstoles exhibition center via Navipark.
