Faceoffs are used in surveys to compare different versions of an event. The aim is to clarify contradictions and assist in the investigation or formation of evidence.
Toffoli was criticized for launching the procedure before hearing from those investigating the case. Indeed, without the testimonies, there are no contradictory versions justifying a confrontation.
The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) even requested the suspension of the confrontation, considering that it would be premature. The argument is that there would be no contradiction to clarify. Toffoli, however, rejected the request and maintained the procedure.
The BC also sought clarification on the confrontation. For example, the municipality questioned whether Aquino’s participation would take place as an investigator, victim or witness. On Saturday, Toffoli said the BC director was not under investigation.
