The case was reported in a house on 21 and 125 bis in Villa Progreso / Web
The series of violent events that shook Berisso was brought to light again by a terrible episode at Villa Progreso, where a 57-year-old worker spent a night that could have ended in tragedy. The rise of gangs breaking into homes with complete impunity, at any time and without hesitation to resort to violence, has become one of the most worrying features of insecurity in the region. This time, five hooded thieves acted with a coordination that made it clear they knew exactly how to exploit the victim’s vulnerability.
As EL DIA learned, the incident occurred on Saturday at around 11:15 p.m. when the victim was in his home at 21st and 125th streets, in the heart of Villa Progreso. It all started with a noise that alarmed him: his Gilera 110 motorcycle – which he had bought just four days earlier – was parked on the sidewalk. When he looked out to see what was going on, he found a person dressed entirely in black with his hood pulled up and his face covered. The unknown man pretended to be looking for a person “whose name he didn’t remember” and seconds later gave a signal in the air. At this moment, four more people appeared behind him.
The scene played out within seconds. Without giving him time to react, the five attackers forced their way into the house and forced him inside. Once inside, they forced him to kneel on a chair and propped his head forward, making him completely immobile and unable to see. It was at this moment that his physical integrity was most compromised: surrounded, restricted and unable to identify any of the attackers, the victim could only hear the voices of those who threatened him. According to his complaint, he said he identified at least two young people and three adults, all men.
As they made him kneel, they demanded money and whatever valuables they had on hand. Within minutes, they confiscated his wallet containing cash, ID documents and his cell phone. They also carried a suitcase in which they stored tools, a collection of sports magazines and various documentation, among other personal items. To complete the plunder, they stole three surveyors.
With the house keys and the motorcycle in their possession, the five criminals escaped: two fled on board the motorcycle and the other three went on foot towards areas 80 and 125.
Spokesmen stated that the victim remained in the house in shock and did not dare to leave the house for fear that the attackers were still nearby. In addition, just yesterday afternoon he notified a patrol car that was driving through the area. He then filed the complaint with the Villa Progreso department.
INSTALLED FEAR
Still beaten and with slight traces of the violence inflicted during the attack, the victim assured the authorities that he could not recognize anyone: they were all wearing hoods, dressed in black and acting with surgical speed. He also emphasized that there are numerous cameras in the neighborhood that could be crucial in reconstructing the attack.
The event raised fears in an area that has seen a rise in robberies, where neighbors warn that the crime presence has become constant.
