This fifth edition of the Social Trends Survey is based on 4,031 telephone interviews with citizens residing in 1,133 municipalities and 50 provinces carried out between December 9 and 15, just after the celebration of the forty-seventh anniversary of the Magna Carta and the 50th anniversary of the death of dictator Francisco Franco and in the midst of the electoral campaign in Extremadura.
In this annual study, the CIS includes a question allowing respondents to evaluate (from 1 to 10) nine institutions chosen by the demographic institute, and among those on the list, they only approve of the Constitution, which remains at the head of the trust, with a average rating of 6.40exceeding the 6.07 obtained a year ago in the previous edition, and the Constitutional Court, which on this occasion obtained a score of 5.02 compared to 4.81 in 2024.
Justice, at the limit
Justice in general appears to be behind, with a 4.90 which improves its score by two tenths compared to a year ago; commercial organizations (4.62); the media (4.34) and Parliament, which also improves its 2024 rating and is now rated 4.01.
At the bottom of the ranking of institutions that arouse the most distrust among Spaniards are the Spanish government, unions and political parties, although their figures are improving compared to 2024.
SO, The coalition government led by Pedro Sánchez obtains a score of 3.84; Unions scored 3.70 and political parties closed the list with a score of 3.49.
The survey also reveals a certain weariness of citizens with regard to certain institutions, because the respondents remember that five years ago, they had more confidence in political parties (52.8%), in the government (37.8%) and in the media (35.6%). And even 48.9% believe that in five years they will have an even worse opinion of the parties.
