The Government of Castile-La Mancha has subsidized more than 16,200 euros for the second phase of a research project focused on the hydraulic heritage and landscapes of the banks of the Tagus when it passes through the city of Toledo. … This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, Carmen Teresa Olmedo, during a visit to the environment where the works are taking place.
The Deputy Minister underlined the commitment of the Regional Executive to the conservation and enhancement of regional heritage and recalled that this aid was channeled through the order of investigation of archaeological and paleontological heritage. During the previous call, this same project had already received a grant of more than 17,200 euros.
The study aims to continue the identification, documentation and analysis of the historic hydraulic works located between the Torreón del Baño de la Cava and the old hydroelectric power station of Buenavista. Among the elements analyzed are weirs, mills and old hydroelectric plants, as well as the archaeological study of the Artificio de Juanelo and its immediate surroundings.
In addition, the project addresses the diachronic analysis of the irrigated space around the Rose Creek and the study of the cultural landscape in transformation from ancient to contemporary times. This work completes the information contained in the asset management tools developed during the previous phase of the research.
Carmen Teresa Olmedo emphasized that The project applies advanced landscape archeology methodologies and geographic information technologies for the documentation, analysis and conservation of Toledo’s hydraulic heritage.
The initiative also envisages the scientific and social dissemination of the results obtained through conferences, specialized articles and institutional collaborations, with the aim of bringing this heritage closer to citizens and strengthening its long-term protection.
