It is more than proven that Andalusia is full of talent, as well as that of the University of Grenadeone of the most prestigious in Spain, where more than 60,000 students study not only Spanish but from many other countries, know how to obtain the … match this talent. To this effort is also added the Junta of Andalusia with specific programs which also serve to give a first boost to those who wish to progress in each of their areas of activity.
The Council’s programs, in synergy with Red.es, They finance contracts of a maximum duration of 48 months for researchers and technicians, including training of 240 ECTS credits – acronym for European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System – which constitute a unit of measurement of the student’s work in European higher education, where 1 ECTS is equivalent to approximately 25-30 hours of total dedication: courses, studies, work, exams.
Red.es is behind the talent attraction and retention programs, an initiative that is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, particularly in the Digital Professions section of the National Digital Skills Plan. Its objective is to promote programs of talent attraction and retention linked to technological or scientific fields linked to digitalization and, in particular, to Artificial Intelligence (AI).
These programs, as we have said, include four-year contracts that are offered by public bodies at the state level, for technical, predoctoral or postdoctoral research personnel, as well as for associated technical support personnel, with a training plan that includes the 240 ECTS credits already mentioned. Until now 374 contracts were formalized.
When we talk about Artificial Intelligence and the University of Granada, it is essential to emphasize that forty years ago there was already work in this area in the Andalusian city. It is in fact the first Spanish university to do so forty years ago, and today it is considered one of the best in the world when it comes to research on the subject. It has related degrees that deliver qualified professionals to full employment and attract technological investments to the capital and its surrounding areas. Starting in the 2026-2027 academic year, he will teach a specific degree in AI.
European funding
Red.es integrates into projects as interesting as Generation Dwhich facilitates these 374 contracts across four entities based in Spain to seek personnel from all areas. This is an ambitious program, with an investment of 120 million euros and in which the participation of the European Union through funds stands out. New generationas well as the Spanish government. The project was launched in October 2024 and will remain in effect, in principle, until March 2029.
As part of this generation D, Red.es is also at the origin of the ambitious initiative of Digital talentswhich aims to guarantee the training and digital inclusion of workers and all citizens, in order to promote the creation of quality jobs, promote greater employment stability, reduce unemployment, increase productivity and the digital transformation of the Spanish economy and contribute to eliminating gender, social and territorial gaps.
To talk about its gestation, we have to go back to January 2021, when the central government approved the National Digital Skills Plana comprehensive strategy aimed at increasing the level of digital skills of the groups that make up society according to their needs, from citizens in general to digital specialists, through the fields of education and work – employees, unemployed, civil servants… -, all paying particular attention to the need to reduce the current digital divide.
The aforementioned plan is financed largely by European funds and includes seven lines of action, structured around four investment axes. More specifically, Red.es is developing actions in the areas known as “Transversal digital skills”, “Digital skills for employment” and “Digital professions”. In this context, Red.es has launched actions to digital training citizens through training actions aimed at the population at risk of digital exclusion, in order to acquire, develop and improve their digital skills.
Likewise, Red.es promotes talent attraction and retention programs related to technological or scientific areas linked to digitalization and, in particular, artificial intelligence. In addition, it allocates funds to achieve training actions in digital skills aimed mainly at professionals, employees and the unemployed, belonging to the different general councils and professional associations throughout Spain.
Various objectives
The fundamental objectives are as follows: invest in digital skills to be able to take advantage of the opportunities offered by digital transformation and thus fill gaps of all kinds. Also, develop the digital skills of professionals to boost competitiveness and the digital transformation of the Spanish economy. And third, but not least, investing in talent attraction and retention programs in the areas of artificial intelligence and digitalization.
The different programs in which Red.es currently collaborates have 80,000 students in training actions and have to date signed more than 300 contracts in Artificial Intelligence and digitalization. Likewise, within the framework of Generation D, Red.es promotes a line of training in digital skills and artificial intelligence aimed at professionals enrolled in key sectors such as legal, health, social, economics, engineering and architecture, whose courses began in the last quarter of 2025.
With a budget of 200 million eurosthis initiative is supervised and will make it possible to train up to 80,000 professionals registered throughout the country, in collaboration with the Professional Union and the General Councils and professional colleges at the state level that this association brings together. The courses will have a total duration of 150 hours and are structured in two blocks: a common one of 40 hours focused on transversal digital skills, and another specific one of 110 hours adapted to the needs of each professional profile. Training will be provided by the General Councils and Professional Associations members of the program.
Red.es doesn’t want to leave anyone behind, he knows it the digital divide is a stumbling block which ends up having harmful consequences and that is why it allocates 45 million euros for basic digital skills training for the elderly, people with disabilities, vulnerable people and the rest of the population without basic digital skills.
