The Regional Council for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights of the Federal District Government has ordered the suspension from office of advisor Adolfo Moisés da Rocha, after he asked the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to inspect the special cell where former president Jair Bolsonaro is detained.
Rocha’s request was made without Council authorization, which would violate internal rules. Thirteen councilors voted for the suspension. Some of them declared that he had carried out acts “beyond his competence” and that he should have forwarded the request so that it could be discussed beforehand at the collegiate body. The suspension was decided on December 17.
During the hearing, Rocha’s defense stated that he “did not act in the capacity of an advisor, but rather as a defender of human rights, which is why he did not inform the Presidency (of the Council) beforehand.”
According to the Council’s decision, he is suspended from his functions until a “proper investigation is carried out into the facts”.
