Benfica secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup by beating Farense 2-0 this Wednesday (17), in Faro. Richard Ríos, ex-Palmeiras, and Croatian Franjo Ivanović scored the goals at the São Luís stadium.
With a result far from home, the Eagles guarantee a place in the next phase of the national tournament, where they will face Leiria with a view to qualifying for the semi-finals.
The opening score came early: after 11 minutes of play, Ríos took advantage of a precise cross and finished with the first attempt to give the visitors the advantage. At the start of the second half, also in the 11th minute, Ivanović increased the score to consolidate Benfica’s dominance in the match.
Thus, Benfica turns its attention to the Portuguese League, where it will face Famalicão next Monday (22), at 5:45 p.m. (Brasília time). Farense, on the other hand, continues its campaign in LigaPro. After all, they will face Leiria on Sunday (21), at 12:30 p.m. (Brasilia time), in the Portuguese second division.
