— According to the contract, it would take us three years to put (the operation) into practice, but I want to bring this forward to next year, because there are already people who are asking us for such a section — says Carlos Favoretto, director of ECP Consultoria e Projetos, one of the companies in the consortium.
The Marapendi canal line, explains the executive, can be implemented more quickly because the Marapendi lagoon is already desilted. The idea is, as soon as conditions allow, to also start operating the section connecting Rio das Pedras to BarraShopping.
According to the rules of the call for tenders, the consortium must complete eight lines, in addition to building five stations, but Favoretto indicates that other sections will be put into service. In January, an action plan will be presented which will define all the lines and logistics of the operations, as well as the vessels used.
The goal of the new transportation model is to transport up to 90,000 passengers per day, connecting the Jardim Oceânico metro to shopping centers, condominiums, the Olympic Park and communities in the region. The ferries will have an integrated system with Jaé and the Bilhete Único Carioca. Among the obligatory lines, some will pass through Rio das Pedras and have direct connections to Linha Amarela, BarraShopping and Jardim Oceânico.
— We hope to continue to guarantee our right to work, which we have built over the years — he declared.
